The Kingdom of Cambodia has only recently been discovered by travelers. The capital Phnom Penh was once considered one of the most beautiful cities in the Orient and still retains its colonial charm although it is now very bustling and at times appearing extremely busy. Particularly beautiful is the area surrounding the Royal Palace where magnificent Khmer towers share a boulevard with French villas overlooking the banks of the Tonle Sap River.
Just outside Phnom Penh is the notorious Killing Fields and genocide Museum, a harrowing reminder of just how nasty people can be and a poignant reminder of the past.
